Fighting in space creates many challenges. First of all, space, including in a solar system, is a big, big place. It is about 3000 miles from New York to Los Angeles. To the moon it is 186000 miles, about 60 times farther, and Mars is much, much farther. As a result, just coming to grips with an enemy can be difficult.

Unless you are defending a facility or planetary body. Then an attacker can come to grips with the defenders.

Second, it’s hard to hide or be clever in space. Traveling at spaceflight speeds you don’t want to be near high density areas which could do the enemy’s work for it by destroying or disabling your ships. As a result, most fights are very straight forward and occur in very open space.

Unless you are very creative. Very, very creative. Otherwise, it is simply a matter of counting up missile tubes and wiping out the smaller force.
